FEATURED WORKSHOP

CI Immersion: From Comprehension to Proficiency

A hands-on professional development workshop exploring how comprehensible input, meaningful interaction, storytelling, reading, and classroom systems work together to develop language proficiency.

Participants examine instructional routines and consider how to implement these approaches in their own classrooms. Each workshop is customized for the needs of the school or department.

Available options, subject to confirmation: half-day workshop, full-day workshop, virtual delivery, and in-person delivery.

Teacher practice and possible deliverables

We can use the story-based work in my workshop handout and planning worksheets to choose a focus. Depending on your team’s needs and the time available, teachers might:

  • Choose 3–6 essential words or chunks, develop TPR gestures, and draft a flexible story script with a character, a problem or desire, and a possible resolution.
  • Write 15 varied questions around one sentence, then practice orbiting and telling part of the story while colleagues take the learner role.
  • Design a Focused Entry Task to bring learners back to familiar language at the beginning of class.
  • Read the story and draft three supplemental processing activities, such as true/false questions, a related survey, and an open-ended question.
  • Turn story themes into specific “I can” statements, choose how learners could demonstrate them, and consider a simple rubric.

Possible working drafts include a story script and phrase list, a bank of questions, an entry task, a set of processing activities, or an assessment prompt. We’ll agree on which are useful for your teachers; these are options, not a promise to complete every item in one workshop.

I want teachers to experience the language work as learners as well as practice leading it. That gives us something concrete to discuss: Was the message clear? Did the questions give us time to process? What would need to change for your students?

Implementation can begin with one routine or one assessment, then develop through use and reflection. The agenda and pace depend on your context, rather than a fixed workshop schedule.

THREE WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER

Workshops, coaching,
and department support.

Each engagement begins with a conversation about your teachers, students, and instructional goals. We can determine the agenda, delivery, schedule, and fee together.

01

Workshops

Virtual or in-person sessions for schools, departments, or teacher groups. Half-day and full-day formats can make space for practical, participatory work and classroom implementation.

VIRTUAL / IN PERSON

02

Coaching & consulting

Focused support for individual teachers or teams developing comprehensible instruction, classroom routines, story-based work, curriculum, or assessments.

03

Department PD series

An ongoing sequence of sessions that gives a department time to implement, reflect on, and refine its instructional systems.

WHAT WE CAN WORK ON

Possible areas
for collaboration.

  • Making language comprehensible and checking understanding
  • Building meaningful classroom interaction
  • Recycling language through stories and reading
  • Developing sustainable instructional routines
  • Connecting curriculum and assessment to proficiency
  • Adapting the work to your department’s context

The focus depends on your team. These are possible areas for collaboration, not a fixed workshop agenda.

Plan training
for your department.

Tell me where your team is now and what you want to work on. Include your preferred format, approximate group size, and general timeframe if you know them.

We’ll discuss fit, scope, availability, and pricing before making a training commitment. An inquiry does not reserve a date.
